SwayamDhan Help Centre

Your financial picture, explained step by step.

A beginner-friendly guide to what each part of SwayamDhan does, how to add your information, how to read the results, and when your data leaves your browser.

Draft v2 - production review: 18 August 2026
Designed around the two biggest first-user questions: “Can I trust this with my financial information?” and “How do I get my information into the system?” This guide answers those before moving into the deeper portfolio and planning features.

Start here

You do not need to understand every finance term or complete every field on day one. SwayamDhan's public site describes the product as a way to bring investments, property, gold, retirement savings, insurance and loans into one financial picture, then understand what needs attention.

  1. Start anonymously or with sample data. No sign-up, PAN or phone number is required for anonymous use. Start with approximate amounts if that is easier.
  2. Add a few things you own and owe. Use the input method that feels most familiar: type, paste, spreadsheet or CAS.
  3. Review Portfolio and Insights. First understand the picture; then improve missing details and use planning features as they become useful.

Getting started

/start and the public landing experience should reassure a new user that they can explore before committing personal information.

What SwayamDhan is

SwayamDhan is a private financial-awareness and planning tool for bringing a household's assets, liabilities and ownership into one place. Its public site positions the product as more than a net-worth tracker: the goal is to understand the picture, identify what deserves review, explore trade-offs and track decisions over time.

A good first session

  1. Explore sample data if you are unsure. Learn the screens without entering your own numbers.
  2. Use anonymous mode if privacy is your priority. Your financial records stay in the browser in local-only mode.
  3. Enter approximate values first. Add detail only when it helps the decision you are trying to make.
Earlier walkthrough capture of the start/home experience. The current public site still offers anonymous start and sample-data exploration.

Privacy and trust

Privacy should be explained at the moment a user is deciding whether to enter, upload or send financial information - not only inside a legal page.

ActionWhat leaves your browser?Plain-English explanation
Anonymous / local modePortfolio records do not leave the browser. The current Privacy Policy says family details, holdings and entered numbers remain in browser storage and are not sent to SwayamDhan's servers.
Upload a CAS PDFThe CAS file and, if required, its password are sent to SwayamDhan's backend only after you choose the CAS upload. The current policy says the backend reads the PDF directly, does not send it to AI, does not log/store the password, and does not add extracted holdings until you review and confirm them.
Use Insights / AskYour question and relevant financial context needed for the answer may leave the browser. The screen explicitly warns before submission. The current Privacy Policy says account-mode Ask sends the question and a portfolio summary to Anthropic's Claude API for that answer, while folio numbers are excluded.
Create an accountThe data you choose to store in the account is stored by the service. An account can make your information available across devices. The policy says users can export their data and permanently delete the account and associated financial records.

Insights

/overview is now the main financial decision-assistant screen. It combines “what deserves attention” with a place to ask a question about your money.

Current production Insights screen: financial-context choice, question box, suggested questions and attention cards.
Current production Insights screen: financial-context choice, question box, suggested questions and attention cards. Current production

How to use this screen

  • Read the privacy banner first. In anonymous mode, records stay in the browser except when you explicitly use an upload or AI action.
  • Choose your financial context. Use my financial picture lets the question use relevant recorded categories. Scenario only is for a hypothetical question without relying on your recorded portfolio.
  • Ask a complete question. The prompt box works best when the question contains the decision or trade-off you are considering.
  • Use the suggested questions if you are unsure where to start. Examples on the current screen include retirement timing, loan repayment versus investing, and monthly spending.
  • Review “What deserves attention”. Each card explains an issue such as incomplete data, concentration or missing loan information. Use View evidence to understand the basis, or Ask about this to continue the topic.
Important: the production screen states that SwayamDhan is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser and that this is educational decision-support information. Treat AI responses as inputs to your own review, not as investment, tax or legal advice.

Portfolio

/portfolio is the main numerical summary of your financial picture. The updated screen is denser than the earlier version, so the help text should tell a beginner what to look at first.

Current production Portfolio screen: net worth, gross assets, liquid funds, liabilities, record quality, allocation, concentration, top holdings and suggested next steps.
Current production Portfolio screen: net worth, gross assets, liquid funds, liabilities, record quality, allocation, concentration, top holdings and suggested next steps. Current production

Read it in this order

  1. Start with Net worth. Net worth is recorded assets minus recorded liabilities. The “based on financial records” note reminds you that the result is only as complete as the information entered.
  2. Check Gross assets, Liquid funds and Liabilities. These separate the size of the asset base, the portion that is relatively accessible, and what you owe.
  3. Look at Records. A “need review” count is a data-quality signal. Fixing those items can be more important than studying the charts.
  4. Review Asset allocation. The current screen lets you view allocation by asset class, product or owner.
  5. Review Concentration snapshot. This highlights areas such as property exposure, direct-stock concentration, record freshness and recorded liabilities.
  6. Check Top holdings and Suggested next steps. These show what contributes most to the portfolio and what SwayamDhan thinks deserves review next.
Top-right actions: the current production screen exposes Invest money, Import and + Add record. The help centre should explain these as separate intents so a new user is not forced to understand all import methods at once.

Asset Explorer

Asset Explorer is the record-level view behind Portfolio. Use it to find an item, inspect why a number looks wrong, update details, or focus on a specific type of record.

Typical tasks

  1. Choose a category or tab. Narrow the list to the type of record you want to review.
  2. Search or filter. Use owner, asset class, product, source or freshness where available.
  3. Open the record. Inspect the latest value, source and missing information, then edit only what you know.

Needs information does not necessarily mean “wrong”. It means one or more details are missing, uncertain or worth reviewing.

Add or import records

This remains the area most likely to lose a beginner. The user should first choose the input method that matches what they already have, then review what SwayamDhan understood before confirming it.

Choose the easiest path

MethodUse it whenWhat to expect
+ Add record / typeYou are entering one itemStart with the basic information you know; add detail later instead of guessing.
Paste rowsYou already have a tablePaste data from a spreadsheet and review how each row was interpreted.
Import spreadsheetYou maintain several records in ExcelBring in multiple items and review validation or missing fields before confirming.
CAS PDFYou want to extract mutual-fund holdings from a CAMS/KFintech statementUpload the CAS, provide a password only if required, then review extracted holdings before adding them.

If SwayamDhan cannot find every detail

  1. Check what was understood. Correct anything that is clearly wrong.
  2. Add what you know. Fill useful fields such as value, date or owner where available.
  3. Leave genuinely unknown optional fields blank. Do not invent a value simply to complete the form.
  4. Use review flags later. A usable first portfolio is more important than perfect data entry on the first day.
Recommended beginner flow: before showing the full import interface, ask “How would you like to add your money?” with four large choices: Type one item, Paste a table, Upload Excel, Upload CAS. Put one example and one privacy sentence under each choice.

Plan

/plan is part of SwayamDhan's planning layer. The current public positioning says planning covers retirement as well as taxes, commitments, maturities and payouts.

What a beginner should understand

  • A projection is an estimate based on the assumptions and records available.
  • The purpose is to compare where you may be heading with what you may need, not to promise an outcome.
  • Before relying on a result, review missing or stale portfolio information and the assumptions used.
Current screen capture needed: the production route is JavaScript-rendered and its controls are not visible to the web text crawler used for this update. Add a current screenshot/short recording here before publishing the screen-by-screen instructions.

Timeline

/timeline is the time-based view of the financial picture. SwayamDhan's public sample describes upcoming commitments such as SIPs, EMI and insurance, and the product positioning also refers to maturities, payouts and tracking progress over time.

How to think about Timeline

Use a timeline to answer “what financial event is coming up, when is it due, and does anything need attention before then?” That can include recurring commitments, maturities, payouts or other dated financial events.

Current screen capture needed: add a production screenshot before publishing detailed button-by-button instructions.

Learn

/learn is the education layer. SwayamDhan's public site describes this as source-attributed learning relevant to the user's financial picture.

For new-to-finance users

Use Learn to explain the term or concept before asking the user to act. Wherever possible, link learning back to the number or issue that triggered it - for example, explain “concentration” from a concentration finding rather than expecting the user to know the term in advance.

Current screen capture needed: add a production screenshot before publishing detailed navigation instructions.

Account, backup and deletion

/account is where users should be able to understand whether they are anonymous/local or signed in, and how to export or remove their information.

  • Anonymous/local mode: the current Privacy Policy says the data never left the browser; clearing it from local settings or browser site data removes it.
  • Backup/export: the current anonymous Insights screen visibly offers a Download backup action, and the Privacy Policy says users can export a full copy of their data.
  • Account deletion: the current policy says Account → Delete account permanently removes household, member, portfolio, holding, plan and Ask history after confirmation.
Current Account screenshot needed: capture both anonymous/local and signed-in versions if their controls differ.

What the Help button should show first

Do not make a new user read product definition, privacy, importing and legal disclaimers in one block. Open Help with choices based on what they are trying to do.
